What is an Inverted L Osteotomy?

An inverted L osteotomy is a type of jaw surgery used to reshape or reposition the lower jaw (mandible). It’s often done to correct problems with jaw alignment, improve facial symmetry, or repair damage from injury or disease.

How the Procedure Works:

The inverted L osteotomy, guided by virtual surgical planning (VSP), allowed precise repositioning of the mandible using custom cutting guides and patient-specific reconstruction plates, and sometimes bone grafts are added to support healing.

Surgical Highlights

  • Inverted L osteotomy performed via intraoral access
  • Use of virtual surgical planning for enhanced precision
  • Application of custom mandibular reconstruction plates with predictive hole placement
  • Rigid fixation and bone grafting to optimize stability and healing

Advantages of This Technique

  • Avoidance of external incisions and scars
  • Increased efficiency and accuracy during surgery
  • Custom plate design eliminates need for intraoperative bending
  • Improved anatomical fit and esthetic outcomes
