Dallas BOTOX AND DYSPORT TREATMENTS

Botox is the trade name for onabotulinumtoxinA. They are both neuromodulators, marketed by different companies, that are designed to relax the facial muscles. These injections have been used for more than a decade in children and adults to treat facial muscle spasms, correcting TMJ pain, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), and headaches caused by muscle strain.

By injecting a few units of Botox or Dysport product directly into specific muscles in the face, unwanted crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles can be greatly reduced or eliminated as the Botox or Dysport injected will relax the muscle. The treatment takes effect in approximately two to seven days and best results are noticeable for about 10-12 weeks.

UNIQUE BOTOX AND DYSPORT TREATMENT TECHNIQUE

Dr. Sanovich uses a unique approach to injecting Botox or Dysport, which reduces needle marks on the face, giving the patient a more comfortable injection experience. Following Dr. Sanovich‘s technique, our injectors will also apply a facial massager to the face during injections to almost completely eliminate discomfort.

THE ADVANTAGES OF DR. SANOVICH’S BOTOX AND DYSPORT TECHNIQUE INCLUDE:

  • Reduced needle marks on the skin
  • Almost no bruising
  • Almost no swelling
  • Almost no discomfort

botox or dysport treats:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet lateral to the eyes
  • Frown line areas above the nose
  • “Bunny lines” on the side of the nose during smile
  • Puffy overactive muscles in the lower eyelid
  • Muscles that raise the upper lip too high during smile
  • Muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down creating a sad look
  • Vertical lines in the neck caused by overactive muscles

Botox and Dysport are effective for lines and wrinkles that occur when facial muscles are used. Since we do not want to eliminate the movement associated with normal facial expressions, Botox and Dysport can only be used in certain areas of the face.

How long does the effect of Botox or Dysport last?

The duration of the effect can vary depending on factors like the individual's metabolism and the treated area. Typically, the effects of Botox or Dysport last between three to six months for cosmetic treatments. However, for medical conditions, the duration may vary. The professionals at Dallas Surgical Arts can provide you with an estimated timeline based on your unique needs.

botox and dysport units – how many  do I need?

Botox and Dysport treatments are dosed according to measurements called units. The number of units injected is not related to the age of the patient, but rather the size and strength of the muscle, and the patient’s desired aesthetic. Many patients, regardless of their age, opt to be treated with the FDA recommendation of 63 Botox units for reducing mild to moderate lines in the crow’s feet, glabella, and forehead. Following Dr. Sanovich‘s method, our staff constitutes the strongest solution for our neuromodulators to ensure maximum treatment results.

possible botox or dysport side effects

Side effects of neuromodulator treatments are minimal. Occasionally, slight swelling and/or bruising may last for a few days after an injection. On rare occasions, an adjacent muscle may be temporarily relaxed for several weeks. This may cause a slight lowering of the eyelid, or possible temporary double vision. This will resolve as the effect of the Botox and Dysport is metabolized by your body over the next few weeks.

Botox and Dysport are extremely safe for cosmetic use, but it is not a permanent treatment. When the lines start to reappear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result. Most patients notice movement about 10-12 weeks after treatment. We recommend seeing our injectors every 12 weeks to maintain optimal results.

Unique Botox and Dysport Treatment Technique

Dr. Randy Sanovich has developed a unique approach to injecting Botox or Dysport, which reduces needle marks on the face, and reduces discomfort dramatically. Following Dr. Sanovich‘s technique, our injectors apply a facial massager to the face during all injections to almost completely eliminate discomfort. They also use the facial massager to distribute the Botox or Dysport so it is perfectly even.

Only one injection is made at each site (compared to 3 to 6 injections with other surgeons). Dr. Sanovich uses the smallest needle available and goes through the skin at only one point for each muscle.  He then moves the needle around in the tissue under the skin, which is not as sensitive as the skin, to complete the injection. His assistant immediately applies pressure to the site which almost completely prevents bruising.  This approach lets him easily inject multiple areas with almost no discomfort or bruising.

The Advantages of Dr. Sanovich’s Botox and Dysport technique include:

  • Reduced needle marks on the skin
  • Almost no bruising
  • Almost no swelling
  • Almost no discomfort

Botox and Dysport are effective for lines and wrinkles that occur when the facial muscles are used. They are generally not effective for lines that are present when the face is relaxed, unless the lines are right over the muscles that can be treated with Botox or Dysport. Since we do not want to eliminate the movement associated with most normal facial expressions, Botox and Dysport can only be used in certain areas.

Botox or Dysport treats:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet lateral to the eyes
  • Frown line areas above the nose
  • “Bunny lines” on the side of the nose during smile
  • Puffy overactive muscles in the lower eye lid
  • Muscles that raise the upper lip too high during smile
  • Muscles that pull the corners of the mouth down creating a sad look
  • Vertical lines in the neck caused by overactive muscles

Botox and Dysport Units – What You Need to Know

Why do some doctors charge $200 for muscle relaxers and others charge $350?  It is usually because one doctor uses many more “units” of botulinum than the other, so the effect will be better and last longer.  The dose of most medicines is measured in mg, or milligrams. Botox and Dysport are measured in “units”.  The higher the number of units injected, the bigger the muscle that can be weakened and/or the longer it lasts.

Botox and Dysport come as a powder, with 100 units in a vial.  Sterile salt water is added to the vial to dissolve the powder and make a solution that can be injected.  Following Dr. Sanovich‘s method, our injectors add only one cc (cubic centimeter) of water to the vial to constitute the strongest solution.  Some other doctors add 2 or more cubic centimeters, causing the product to become diluted.  If 2 cc are added, then twice as much product must be injected to obtain the same result.

It is not the volume of the injected Botox or Dysport solution that is important, it is the number of units injected. The larger the volume injected, the more discomfort is felt, and the greater the chance that the Botox will spread to muscles that you do not want to weaken.  Therefore, Dr. Sanovich uses the most concentrated solution.

Dr. Sanovich finds that women typically see the effects from 24 units of Botox and Dysport for about 4 months or longer when injected in the crow’s feet or frown lines.  Some patient’s muscles require a larger dose than others.  Men’s muscles are more resistant to botulinum, and may need 50% to 100% more units for each area to get the same duration.

If you want to spend less on a Botox or Dysport treatment, you should simply ask to have fewer units injected.  The effect will be shorter, so you will need to repeat the treatment more often.  If you are considering Botox or Dysport, let Dr. Sanovich help you decide what is best for you.

If you do not obtain the result you desire after ten days, please come in for re-evaluation. We can easily augment your result with additional Botox or Dysport injections.

Possible Botox or Dysport Side Effects

Side effects and complications have been minimal. Occasionally, slight swelling and/or bruising may last for several days after an injection. On rare occasions an adjacent muscle may be weakened for several weeks after an injection. This may cause a slight lowering of the eyelid, or some double vision. This will resolve as the effect of the Botox and Dysport fades. Botox and Dysport are extremely safe for cosmetic use. It is not a permanent treatment. When the lines start to re-appear, a simple repeat treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result.
