One of the most exciting developments in cosmetic surgery in recent years is the ponytail facelift technique. This is a term for an innovative procedure (endoscopic deep plane facelift) that offers a way to achieve a lifted, youthful look with minimal scarring and downtime. I'm Dr. Randy Sanovich, a board-certified facial cosmetic surgeon in Dallas, Texas at my practice Dallas Surgical Arts. Let's review what makes the ponytail facelift unique, who it is best suited for, and what you can expect from the procedure!

Key Insights

  • A Ponytail Lift (also referred to as PTL, Ponytail Facelift or mini facelift) is going to be less invasive than a traditional facelift.

  • The best candidates for a ponytail facelift are typically around 30 - 50 years old with sagging facial features.

  • The results are subtle and natural.

What Is a Ponytail Facelift?

The ponytail facelift gets its name from the way it mimics the effect of pulling your hair back into a high ponytail. Many people notice that when they do this, their face looks more lifted and youthful. The ponytail facelift is designed to recreate this effect surgically, providing a natural lift to the midface, jawline, and sometimes the brow, without the need for longer or more obvious incisions. This procedure is less invasive than a traditional facelift and is ideal for patients who are beginning to notice sagging or loss of definition but do not yet need a full facelift.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

The best candidates for a ponytail facelift are typically around 30 years old, up to patients their 50s with sagging facial features. If you are looking for a subtle, natural-looking lift and want to avoid the longer recovery associated with traditional facelifts, this procedure may be right for you. During your consultation, I will assess your facial structure, skin quality, and aesthetic goals to determine if the ponytail facelift is the best option, or if some other facelift technique would deliver a better outcome.

What Happens During the Procedure?

The ponytail facelift procedure is performed under sedation and the technique calls for small, hidden incisions in the hairline. Through these incisions, I lift and reposition the underlying tissues to create a more youthful contour. Since incisions are small and well-concealed, most patients experience less swelling and bruising than traditional facelifts. The results are subtle and natural. You will look like yourself, only more refreshed and lifted and patients love that they can wear their hair up without worrying about visible scars. Additionally, patients who are looking to revise or hide a scar from a prior facelift or procedure may want to consult with our office as we have various laser treatments and skincare products available, or we can discuss a scar revision surgery.
