Enhance Your Nose Shape with Rhinoplasty: Understanding Different Types of Nose Shapes and Procedures in 2023 at Dallas Surgical Arts

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nose. This procedure has become increasingly popular in recent years as more people seek to achieve a more balanced facial appearance. In this blog post, we will explore the types of procedures available, the different types of commonly requested nose shapes, and the benefits of a rhinoplasty.

Types of Rhinoplasties

Depending on the patient’s desired results, there are various approaches to addressing concerns regarding the nose. Many patients schedule a complete rhinoplasty, which addresses the entire nose, but some may only need a tip rotation, which focuses specifically on rotating or reshaping the nasal tip.

Sometimes, patients will need to improve their breathing concerns through other types of nose surgeries, like a septoplasty to correct a deviated septum, or a turbinectomy to remove enlarged turbinates that can hinder proper breathing and cause snoring. Both of these procedures address the nose internally.

Patients with a wide nasal alar base or unwanted nostril flaring may seek to correct this with a Weir's procedure to achieve an improved aesthetic and facial balance. Named after the surgeon that first used the technique, this nose procedure involves narrowing and reshaping the nostrils with discrete incisions that follow the curve of the nose where the nostril meets the facial skin.

It is important for patients to understand that some treatment plans may require a combination of procedures to achieve the best outcome. Dr. Sanovich will work with you to determine the best type of procedure for your individual needs and goals.

Dr. Randy may treat patients that are unhappy with previous rhinoplasty results performed by another cosmetic surgeon. Patients looking for a revision after having a rhinoplasty with another surgeon must wait at least 6 months while their previous rhinoplasty is healing before scheduling a revision procedure with our practice. Revision rhinoplasty patients are always happy with Dr. Randy’s results as he will confirm their surgical plan through 3D imaging renderings to ensure they will be satisfied with the results.

Common Nose Shapes Requested

Button Nose

A button nose is a small nose with a rounded nasal tip and is often considered cute and youthful. A button nose is one of the most common types of nose shapes requested by patients.

Celestial Nose

A celestial nose is a nose shape that features a delicate and refined appearance with a slightly upturned tip. This type of nose is often sought after by individuals who want to enhance their natural features and achieve or maintain a more conventionally feminine appearance.

Straight Nose

A straight nose is a nose shape that features a symmetrical appearance with a straight bridge. This type of nose is sometimes referred to as a “Greek” nose and is often sought after by individuals who want to achieve a more sleek and harmonious profile.

How to Find the Right Nose Shape for Your Face

When you visit our office for your consultation, you may bring any questions you have regarding the procedure, concerns about your current appearance, and ideas or inspiration for your desired outcome. Dallas rhinoplasty surgeon Dr. Randy Sanovich specializes in facial cosmetic surgeries like rhinoplasties and has performed thousands of cosmetic procedures. He will listen to your concerns, and guide you using his skills and surgical expertise to suggest the most balanced nose shape for your face. This can often be determined by assessing your E-plane or aesthetic plane, which is the distance and angle between the tip of your nose and chin.

Dr. Randy offers his patients a customized 3D plan of their results based on the concerns discussed and the patient’s aesthetic goals, allowing them to see a highly accurate rendering of the outcome of their procedure before actually undergoing surgery.

What to Expect After Rhinoplasty

You will be sedated with anesthesia and need to request a designated driver to take you home after surgery, as well as to sleep elevated once you get home and for several weeks after. Your nasal splint will be removed at your one-week post-operative appointment. Detailed aftercare will be provided by our surgical team and they are happy to answer any questions you may have. You will notice bruising after your procedure, but our V-Beam laser treatment is a popular option to help minimize and eliminate bruising very quickly.

We ask our patients to refrain from alcohol while taking the prescriptions for pain relief and to stop any tobacco or nicotine use for a minimum of one week prior to surgery and two weeks after surgery. Ideally, patients will wait at least four-six weeks before resuming nicotine use as this chemical dramatically slows the healing process. This is because nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, which means it constricts blood vessels and depletes the blood of oxygen necessary for proper healing.
