Microdermabrasion smoothes and brightens the skin by using a stream of fine crystals to exfoliate the dead surface cells, remove superficial dark spots and stimulate the deeper tissues to thicken. A series of treatments is recommended, each visit requiring approximately 15 to 30 minutes. You can return to your normal activities immediately after the microdermabrasion session.

A Better Approach

In most other practices, microdermabrasion is a mild therapy that provides subtle improvements. In our practice, as part of the microdermabrasion treatment, a glycolic acid and a mask are applied to enhance the process, followed by a cold pack and moisturizer to relieve irritation. This more aggressive therapy produces more substantial improvements, while retaining minimal downtime. It is a good choice for people who cannot afford to take time off for healing from chemicals or laser, active patients who do not want to put off social or outdoor activities like tennis, golf or skiing, and young patients with early skin changes who want softer, smoother skin. Other therapy options can provide more dramatic improvement at the expense of more downtime.

Microdermabrasion has become one of the most popular procedures in the US to keep the complexion glowing and youthful. Its benefits are many, and with no downtime, it is a powerful, yet mild, skin rejuvenation procedures around. After a microdermabrasion session, skin may appear slightly red or pink for a few hours and may even feel a little bit tighter. There are three areas where microdermabrasion is useful: anti-aging, general skin conditions and scarring.

Because microdermabrasion removes the top layer of skin it is also helping to remove fine wrinkles, pigmentation, sunspots and sun damage. Once the top layers of skin have been removed the new skin is able to absorb more effectively so it is a good time to give the skin back nutrients such as topical antioxidants.

General Skin Conditions

Pimples, blackheads, acne and oily or problem skin benefit greatly from microdermabrasion. Because it is a mild procedure, the majority of skin types can undergo a series of treatments. Unclogging pores can help fix underlying problems leaving the skin fresh and ready for at-home skin care.

Scarring, especially on the face, can be debilitating. Keloid scars, acne scars, stretch marks and any form of scarring on the face or body can be treated with microdermabrasion. It should be noted however that scars won’t disappear completely and it will take several sessions to obtain a 20-40% improvement.
