Recover from Summer Sun Exposure

It’s been a wonderful summer here in Texas, with plenty of sunshine and warm weather to help motivate us to get outdoors and take advantage of the long days and cool nights. But along with all that fun and vitamin D, some of us may have gotten a little more than we’d bargained for: sun damage. Yes, summer means sunburns, sunspots and sun-damaged skin, but you don’t have to live with the side effects! Here are a few solutions to clearing up all those remnants on your skin of a summer well lived.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Using the fractional CO2RE laser, you can treat scars, wrinkles, age spots, skin laxity, and, of course, sun damage. The CO2RE uses two different types of laser beams to penetrate several layers of the skin simultaneously. The CO2RE not only resurfaces but also reaches the surface, middle, and deep dermal layers of the skin. The CO2RE laser works by using short pulses of light energy to remove layers of skin. This creates a more vibrant, youthful appearance on the skin, with recovery taking about two weeks.

Skin Lesion Removal

Skin lesions can occur for many reasons, including sun exposure. Dr. Sanovich can remove skin lesions in his clinic. The complexity and recovery of lesion removal depends on the size and depth of the lesion, but with the exception of cancerous lesions, most skin lesion removals are fast with a relatively mild recovery.

Skin lesions can be removed in several different ways, including topical products such as tretinoin, Efudex, hydroquinone, azelaic acid, and Retin-A. These topicals essentially change the chemistry of the affected tissues and reverse the lesion process.

Another method of removing skin lesions is electrocautery. This method essentially breaks down the lesions so they can be removed from the normal underlying healthy tissue. This method is great for cherry angiomas and skin tags.

Surgical excision is another method Dr. Sanovich uses to remove skin lesions. It is done by creating an incision around the lesion and excising the lesion from the skin. The skin is then sutured back together, leaving minimal scarring.

If you’re ready to restore that healthy glow and start correcting that summer sun damage, give Dr. Sanovich’s office a call at 972-776-4888.
