Create Beautiful Ears with an Otoplasty

otoplasty before and after

Do you have protruding ears that stick out further than you’d like? Are you tired of trying to cover your ears with your hair, hats or scarves? You may believe you have to live with protruding ears for the rest of your life, but there’s good news. There is a procedure to correct them, and it’s called otoplasty.

What Is Otoplasty?
Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that alters the cartilage inside the ear and forms it into a shape and or size that is more desirable to the patient.

How Is an Otoplasty Performed?
First, by taking 3D photos and using an advanced computer software program, Dr. Sanovich will go over the estimated results of an otoplasty procedure with the patient. Once the patient agrees upon a suitable look, Dr. Sanovich will schedule the procedure.

To perform the otoplasty procedure, Dr. Sanovich will use a light general anesthesia and longer-lasting local anesthetic to get the patient comfortable. An incision is then made in the back of the hair, and Dr. Sanovich removes cartilage and tissue from the ear as needed to create the patient’s desired ear shape. Once the desired amount of cartilage and tissue is removed, the ears are then sutured with dissolving sutures into the proper shape for healing, and the patient is bandaged and released.

What Can I Expect from My Otoplasty?
The otoplasty procedure is done on an outpatient basis, and healing takes one to two weeks. Once healed, the ears will mirror the image on the software program the patient was initially shown at his or her consultation. The outcome is that the ears will be smaller and closer to the head, depending on the desired outcome of the surgery, and the patient will hopefully no longer feel the need to hide behind hair or hats to disguise their ears.

How Do I Schedule an Otoplasty?
Otoplasty surgery can create natural, beautiful ears that help you achieve balance and symmetry in your face.
